Last night’s KOA stay was just about as perfect as anyone could want. There were so many stars. It’s been a long time since any of us had really seen them and if you took your eyes off of the fire for long enough to focus on them their sheer numbers was awesome. The first ‘star’ we saw was actually Jupiter. It was right in line with the tower.
We cooked spam and beans that we brought all the way from California, drank a little too much, and had a an amazing time.
The roads today were tight and beautiful. We road through the black Hills and are now in South Dakota.
An hour or so ago we ran into a few heards of tatanka. They were less than a lane’s width away and let me tell you, that shit was scary. They seemed to really dislike the sound of our bikes and when we were close they would freak out and run. Kind of like a stamped, well I guess just like one. The real terror came when the majority of the heard had ran but this big ass one just stood there and eye balled us. His shoulders were the same height as mine. There were light brown baby buffalo running around so seeing the crazy in the big son of a bitches eyes reminded me of Alaska moose crazy. They kill more people than bears. As we rode away I had to look back because I was sure that big one was coming!
After a day of getting our asses kicked by the wind we made it! We are staying at a KOA at the tower’s base. It’s pretty sweet. They show close encounters here every night.
We have a cabin that has a bunk bed and another bed, a fire pit, a river out the back window, and the tower is visible from the porch swing.
Time to get some supplies and celebrate!
We made it into Wyoming today. Not a lot to report otherwise. We are getting close to the most northern part of this section of the trip. Tomorrow, Devils Tower. Hail Satan
